“CONSTRUCTION OF TRACK OF THE NEW DOUBLE RAILWAY LINE USING THE SLAB TRACK METHOD, BETWEEN KM 374+625 TO KM 381+547 OF THE ATHENS – THESSALONIKI LINE” (CONTRACT 275/02).
Owner: ERGA OSE S.A.
Budget: 14.673.514 €
Time of construction: 2002 – 2003
Short Description:

Track construction for the new Athens–Thessaloniki double high-speed railway line, Tempi Tunnel section (6.922 km in length).

The track construction of the railway line inside the Tempi Tunnel was done using slab track technology.

This project is extremely important and innovative because it was the first time ever that the slab track system was used in Greece. This system is the latest advancement in railway network construction and requires special know-how.

In this system, the track rests on reinforced concrete instead of the traditional ballast bed. This system offers important advantages over the traditional system because it guarantees up to three times more operating time for high-speed railway lines with minimal network maintenance.
